Constipation and straining can worsen piles symptoms. Learn practical habits involving fibre, fluids, movement and healthy toilet routines.
Piles (hemorrhoids) are swollen tissues and blood vessels in and around the anus. Constipation and repeated straining can increase pressure in this area and may worsen symptoms such as bleeding, itching, swelling, discomfort or a lump.
Helpful habits include gradually increasing fibre through vegetables, fruits, whole grains and pulses; drinking adequate fluids according to your health needs; regular walking; responding to the urge to pass stool; and avoiding prolonged toilet sitting or straining.
Rectal bleeding should not automatically be assumed to be piles. If bleeding keeps returning, pain is severe, a new lump appears, there is fever or pus, or symptoms do not improve, seek medical evaluation.
When Should You Consult a Doctor?
If you experience persistent rectal bleeding, acute severe pain during bowel movements, swelling, or unexplained fever, please seek immediate consultation. Early diagnosis ensures simple, non-invasive or laser-guided treatment.
